The Tirreno pearl dominates on the Policastro Gulf: Maratea which is the only strip of the Lucania territory that faces the Tirreno. It is 32km long and has an indented coast of rare beauty. The coast is variegated of coves, caves, little islands, little and big beaches. Odours and flavours of the territory are sublimated in gastronomy : foods and drinks of ancient traditions are renewed using taste and passion. The handwork of the pasta which is very spread all over the Lucania territory, is an unchangeable element in the traditional diet. It is used above all the wheat flour to prepare many kinds of pasta. Very ancient methods of preparations are still used. In order to prepare lasagne, for instance, the foil of pasta is first of all cut and than rolled up on needles or little sticks. |
